… snow…. Yes, it is a move towards the dark side. It’s been a few weeks since receiving the initial dose of the white stuff. Time flies when you’re having fun. Oh, it all started out innocently enough with the mountains getting a bit, which is the perfect place for snow to stick at thisContinue reading “dare I say it? ….”

an unexpected gift
We got a phone call our local cattlemen’s group, the Weiser River Cattlemen’s Association, about a week ago. A donation of fencing, feed and supplements were coming for the local farmers and ranchers who were affected by the Woodhead Fire. They told us to bring the flatbed trailer. It was going to be loaded up.Continue reading “an unexpected gift”
have you hugged your cow today?
Okay, so our cows and bulls get a little special attention, like Fritter in the previous. But did you know that it is therapeutic? Did you know that hugging cows can relieve stress? Don’t laugh… I know you’re laughing… Seriously, there are experts that say that hugging a cow can bring wellness to your soulContinue reading “have you hugged your cow today?”
I’m tired of smoke & ash…. so how ’bout a little diversion from it all
We are selling bulls. The fire burning the majority of our forage and pastures has made stocking capacity a lot smaller for us and now we have to feed the livestock months before we normally would feed them. So onward to find out what else the fire burned – property, vegetation and fencing. It is not looking too promising for ourContinue reading “…the afternoon”
the morning after…
The fire was given an official name. The Woodhead Fire. I guess so named because there is a campground in the area by Brownlee Reservoir called Woodhead. I don’t know. The fire originated somewhere on Brownlee Summit. It was Labor Day and a lot of people escaped the human feedlots otherwise known as the bigContinue reading “the morning after…”
the calm before the storm
3:45AM September 8th – suddenly the wind stopped like a switch was turned off. Sometimes it will appear just the same. It does that here a lot when storms come or go. The sky glowed all night. We kept night-watch through the night and eventually dozed for a bit between the two of us. PossiblyContinue reading “the calm before the storm”
Labor Day – September 7, 2020
“We have a fire up somewhere to the northwest. Smoke showing really strong.” Just what you don’t want to get messaged to you when you have about a 45 minute drive ahead of you. The day was very windy and we had a month of very hot, dry temperatures and conditions. The vegetation and airContinue reading “Labor Day – September 7, 2020”

So here goes… welcome to old friends, new friends and travelers passing by. This is a short post while I figureContinue reading “new beginnings”
