September 7th, 2020 started out with high wind advisories and a continuation of high temperatures. It was Labor Day. Thousands of people were hitting the campgrounds and traveling anywhere they could post-lockdown. At 6:38 pm I received a text from home “We have a fire up somewhere to the northwest. Smoke showing really strong.”

The long & the short of it all, we were ordered to evacuate that night and again the next day as the fire crested the hill on the property. The beginnings of what became known as the Woodhead Fire – rumored to have been started by a government agency that oversees a wildlife refuge, but non-the-less it was still started by some idiot. It burned around 100,000 acres with loss of structures and stock. We were blessed. We only lost trees, forage & fencing… and a few hours of sleep. That was the beginning of this blog on wordpress. It begins here https://hrhobo.com/2020/09/17/labor-day-september-7-2020/

Post-pictures to come and some reflections. Got family visiting so will be back soon.

Until next time….
