the mystery of Autumn

Autumn is a muscovy duck. Her sisters Merriweather & Penelope went broody and hatched a few ducklings…. ducklings that weren’t supposed to be hatched but someone decided that he didn’t want to risk his being hand chewed off by the grumpy broody mamas and that it was much safer to leave the eggs alone.

Well, Autumn wasn’t going to be out done. Not to be out done by the other two she got creative and hid her eggs. Now one would think you would be able to find a white duck in green grass. Yeah, it’s a little tall but still….. I would like to run the cows through the mess to get the grass and tules mowed down but she still needed to be found and her eggs moved to a better spot.

After a more than a week of searching, running the dogs through the tall grass, shaking a rattle paddle, sitting & watching her for hours to see where she was hiding only to look away for a minute and she would disappear. It seemed like we would never find her. I’d wake up in the morning expecting to see feathers all over from some wild critter attack.

Until yesterday, FINALLY, the mystery has been solved after using the soon-to-be patented, hi-tech, skillfully engineered device called the Duck Trakker.

Until next time…..
