sigh….

Ranch life isn’t always easy. The circle of life goes on daily. Life begins & life ends. Sometimes life just hits you where your heart is. No one wants to see a life end before you think their time is due. Just like my mom, I never really expected her sudden departure from this world. Many a day I want to just call her. But she is in a way better place. I’m just being selfish…

We’ve had a couple of difficult calving days – but thankfully it’s behind us. We have a yard calf now named Maximus only because his mama decided she liked her free-martin twin better. She’s never had twins even though her mama did. She is out of Sara who was one of the matriarchs of our herd and was an awesome cow. She raised several sets of twins without issue and even raised Pip the black Angus. But twins can cause a little confusion for some cows.

Anyhoo, we lost Magpie… aka Maggie the goat after a short illness. She was a Nubian goat who like most Nubians was a talker and was awesome despite being a goat. She had calcification of her joints and it all happened so quickly, and spread so quickly, that we had to make the difficult decision to put her down. It’s hard to make those decisions on favorites because we love them so much. But sometimes love has difficult decisions and she will be truly missed. She left us with a lot of memories and a hole in our hearts. She was one of Sinclair Betty’s goats, which is another story for another time.

Thank you God for loaning us Magpie.

Until next time…
